A note on installing plugins from a .zip file
Sideloading a plugin (uploading a .zip instead of installing from the WP directory) is standard practice for plugins not yet listed on WordPress.org. The file is the same code that's under review for the official directory. Once that listing is live, new users will install via Add New and updates will arrive through the regular WP update mechanism. Existing direct-download installs keep working unchanged.
